Resumen:

Our understanding of the subseasonal (30-60 day) variability of the atmosphere-earth-ocean system is expanding rapidly. One of the main drivers of that variability, the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO), passes through America on its orbit of the tropics. As the convection of the MJO moves around the equator, it excites a range of direct and teleconnected responses. Here we explore several critical issues for Mexico and Latin America, particularly focusing on convection, rainfall, drought, and air quality. We also examine the potential for extreme events in the future and their connection to the MJO.
