Dr. Alfaro-Moreno is an Environmental Toxicologist with a primary focus on investigating the adverse effects caused by Inhaled Particles. His research centers on assessing both the local and systemic impacts, including neurodegenerative, fertility, and developmental effects induced by urban particulate matter (UPM) and nanoparticles.
He is a bachelor in Pharmaceutical Chemistry (School of Chemistry, UNAM), later on earned a Master’s and Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences ( School of Medicine, UNAM). He further enriched his expertise through postdoctoral training at the Lund Toxicology Unit of the K.U. Leuven.
Between 2008 and 2015, Dr. Alfaro-Moreno served as the head of the Environmental Toxicology Laboratory at the National Institute of Cancer in Mexico. From 2015 to 2020, he lead the Inhalation Toxicology Research project at Swetox in Sweden. In 2020, he secured an ERA-Chair position to lead the Sinfonia Project, aimed to create the Nanosafety competence at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory in Braga, Portugal. Since his tenure began, he has successfully secured two European Projects, LEARN and iCare, as Project Coordinator. He has over 50 published articles with more than 2700 citations.
