Professor in the school of marine and atmospheric sciences with long standing interests in interests in microbial processes at interfaces. These include the bacterial dominance of benthic biological communities in physically dominated environments and microbial dynamics at the sea-air boundary. Collaborations with atmospheric chemists including Daniel Knopf and Luis Antonio Ladino Moreno have focused on the link between organic components of sea spray aerosol on naturally occurring ice forming particles in the atmosphere.
