Professor Mapes studies atmospheric convective clouds and their role in larger-scale tropical weather and climate. His graduate work on observations (radar and aircraft and satellite data) has broadened over the years to include modeling, diagnostics and theory.

El Dr. Mapes es graduado en Ciencias Atmosféricas por la Universidad de Washington y Posdoctorado por la Universidad de Colorado.
